SantaMonica Star Grid Posters

SantaMonica is launching a small set of limited edition posters that will be teasing citizens in Barcelona, Cadaqués and Geneva during winter. The posters feature a simple yet effective visual effect based on a grid of stars. Looking at them from up close all you see is plenty of stars arranged in a perfect grid but as you distance yourself from the poster a portrait starts shaping up. We have chosen Malcolm X, Sofia Loren and Salvador Dalí as representative figures of SantaMonica’s philosophy. We will see some more of these designs soon on collaterals such as paper bags, the new 2010 brochure and some other pieces.

New York Yankees Poster Night Feat. Mariano Rivera

Like every year, the New York Yankees have asked us at C24 in New York to design the Poster that will be featuring Mariano Rivera for the Poster Night. In prior editions we have designed posters that have featured Jorge Posada, Jason Giambi, Tino Martinez, and Mike Mussina. This year, every fan will find a Mariano Rivera Poster in his seat at the Stadium and hundreds more will be given out within the Stadium perimeter.

SantaMonica at The Brandery

Last 7, 8, 9 of July, SantaMonica was representing at The Brandery, a fashion trade-show that took place in Barcelona and that aims to partially fill up the void that the Bread & Butter left behind.

The Brandery was a very interesting experience for us, a way to show what we do to a broader range of people and to realize that no matter how small we are as a brand, we are out there, for real, and that’s already a payoff for all the effort that a graphic designer and an architect have put in making this idea into something real.

SantaMonica was also mentioned and shown on TV as an example of the emerging brands in Barcelona and its stand was also chosen to represent the emerging micro brands during the President’s official visit to our pavilion. We asked him for some more support to small brands like ourselves and we encouraged him to make the next The Brandery even bigger and if possible to make some more noise about it. Let’s hope our words made it through the smiley face.

We also met great people visiting the trade-show and were really fortunate to have very nice and kind “colleagues” in our pavilion such as the guys of La Segunda Planta from Elche and the girls of La Carola from Madrid with their awesome purses.

Until next time…

Here’s a layout we have designed for the record that will stand as a promo item to celebrate SantaMonica’s first year as an Apparel brand. The record is called AGVA .01 (Arkitempura Grotesk Various Artists) and will carry an insert with some blanks to fill up. This coupon will be redeemed at our boutiques and you will get a Limited Edition and exclusively designed Poker Play Cards Set to play some hands while you listen to the electronic downtempo nujazz tunes that we are currently putting together. SantaMonica Stores

We made it. After a big effort and lots of looking around for the right spot, we opened up two stores and we would love to see you there if you ever come to the Born District in Barcelona, or to a small lovely village on the north coast of Catalunya called Cadaqués, where Dalí lived with so much lust and creativity.

The Limited Edition t-shirts and the rest of the SantaMonica collection can also be purchased in our online store. Check them out at www.santamonicabcn.com and click on the Stores button to see where we are.

Sharing Stuff

Yesterday I had the pleasure to give a conference at the Serra i Abella Arts and Design School in Barcelona. It was a great time, a great experience and a great (and bigger than I expected) audience. I would like to thank all of those who attended and kindly listened and delivered such flattering feedback. It was really something to remember.

All the best luck and wishes for all.

Mint Club

This might be the formula against the economic crisis. You scared of your business not doing too good? Then start another one. This is probably what the owners of Metrodanceclub decided to do because here they come with another enormous club. The Mint Club, located in Alicante, Spain.

A couple of weeks ago we were asked to design the club’s logo and yesterday we developed the flyer and poster for the opening. The club is subdivided in four different environments also called Clubs with mostly electronic music and multimedia art.

We ignore if the upcoming events promotional design will fall in our hands, but one way or another we hope the best for this new electronic endeavor.

Milky Way

Here’s the layout for Maarten Reijnierse’s new record “Milky Way”. Maarten, lead guitar and composer of Melou stopped by Barcelona a few weeks ago and we held a nice chilly photo shoot for the album cover that came out really nice. We used the same camera that took the “mating flies” shot for Melou’s “Battery Park” album. We really hope we can have him back in Barcelona soon playing some tunes of his own.
